Comments on the NFL Schedule - AFC

The NFL schedule was released Tuesday, and it looks like another exciting season with some great matchups.

Let's take a look at each team, and you can offer your thoughts on team-by-team schedules. Comments are listed below each team.

AFC East
Buffalo Bills
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Seattle Seahawks 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 at Jacksonville Jaguars 1 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 Oakland Raiders 1 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 at St. Louis Rams 4:05 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 at Arizona Cardinals 4:15 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 Bye
7 Oct. 19 San Diego Chargers 1 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 at Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 New York Jets 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 at New England Patriots 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 17 (Mon.) Cleveland Browns 8:30 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 at Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 San Francisco 49ers 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 Miami Dolphins (at Toronto) 4:05 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 at New York Jets 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Denver Broncos 4:05 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 New England Patriots 1 p.m.

The Bills are looking at another year around .500. They should start 0-2 then 3-2 heading into the bye week. I see them at 8-5 heading into the final three weeks of the season, and Buffalo will likely finish 9-7 or 8-8.

Miami Dolphins
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 N.Y. Jets 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 at Arizona Cardinals 4:15 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 at New England Patriots 1 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 Bye
5 Oct. 5 San Diego Chargers 1 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 at Houston Texans 1 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 Baltimore Ravens 4:15 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 Buffalo Bills 1 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 at Denver Broncos 4:05 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 Seattle Seahawks 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 Oakland Raiders 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 New England Patriots 1 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 at St. Louis Rams 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at Buffalo Bills (Toronto) 4:05 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 San Francisco 49ers 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at New York Jets 1 p.m.

The Dolphins are going to struggle again. They could be 1-2 heading into the bye week with a win against the Jets or Cardinals, but most likely Miami will be fighting for its first victory against Baltimore in Week 7, Oakland in Week 11, at St. Louis in Week 13, San Francisco in Week 15 and at Kansas City in Week 16. The best-case scenario for the Dolphins is they win all those games, which could give them five or six wins this year.

New England Patriots
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.
2 Sep. 14 at New York Jets 4:15 p.m.
3 Sep. 21 Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
4 Sep. 28 Bye
5 Oct. 5 at San Francisco 49ers 4:15 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 at San Diego Chargers 8:15 p.m.
7 Oct. 20 (Mon.) Denver Broncos 8:30 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 St. Louis Rams 1 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 at Indianapolis Colts 8:15 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 Buffalo Bills 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 13 (Thurs.) New York Jets 8:15 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 at Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 Pittsburgh Steelers 4:15 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at Seattle Seahawks* 8:15 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 at Oakland Raiders 4:15 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 Arizona Cardinals 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at Buffalo Bills 1 p.m.

The Patriots have somewhat of a difficult schedule when you see two back-to-back trips to the West Coast in Weeks 5 and 6 and then Weeks 14 and 15. They also have to play at Indianapolis again. Otherwise, New England should coast. The Pats won't go undefeated in the regular season, but they will be successful.

New York Jets
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 at Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 New England Patriots 4:15 p.m.
3 Sept. 22 (Mon.) at San Diego Chargers 8:30 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 Arizona Cardinals 1 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 Bye
6 Oct. 12 Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 at Oakland Raiders 4:15 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 at Buffalo Bills 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 St. Louis Rams 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 13 (Thurs.) at New England Patriots 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 at Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 Denver Broncos 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at San Francisco 49ers 4:05 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 Buffalo Bills 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Seattle Seahawks 4:05 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.

The Jets are going to be 2-2 heading into the bye week at best, with wins against Miami and Arizona. After the bye, the Jets could win their next five games and be 7-2 heading into the showdown with the Patriots. The Jets could get three wins after facing New England against San Francisco, Buffalo and Miami, which would mean a 10-win season is possible.

AFC North
Baltimore Ravens
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 at Houston Texans 4:15 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 Cleveland Browns 4:15 p.m.
4 Sept. 29 (Mon.) at Pittsburgh Steelers 8:30 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 at Indianapolis Colts 1 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 at Miami Dolphins 4:15 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 Oakland Raiders 1 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 at Cleveland Browns 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 Bye
11 Nov. 16 at New York Giants 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 Philadelphia Eagles 1 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 at Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 Washington Redskins 1 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 Pittsburgh Steelers 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 20 (Sat.) at Dallas Cowboys 8:15 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Jacksonville Jaguars 1 p.m.

The Ravens are going to struggle in their division this year because Cleveland will be better, and Cincinnati's offense should be able to score on Baltimore's defense. The Ravens offense might have to win some games this year, which will be tough to count on. The Ravens could be 3-6 heading into the bye week before closing the season with five losses in the final seven games.

Cincinnati Bengals
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 at Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 at New York Giants 1 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 Cleveland Browns 1 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 at Dallas Cowboys 4:15 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 at New York Jets
7 Oct. 19 Pittsburgh Steelers 1 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 Bye
9 Nov. 2 Jacksonville Jaguars 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 at Houston Texans 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 Philadelphia Eagles 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 20 (Thurs.) at Pittsburgh Steelers 8:15 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at Indianapolis Colts 1 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 Washington Redskins 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Cleveland Browns 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.

The Bengals are going to have plenty of offense, but defense will remain the issue. The Bengals could realistically lose six of their first seven games. After the bye, it doesn't get any easier with games against playoff teams in Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Washington, and contenders in Philadelphia and Cleveland. It will be another rough season.

Cleveland Browns
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Dallas Cowboys 4:15 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 Pittsburgh Steelers 8:15 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 at Baltimore Ravens 4:15 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 at Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 Bye
6 Oct. 13 (Mon.) New York Giants 8:30 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 at Washington Redskins 1 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 at Jacksonville Jaguars 4:05 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 6 (Thurs.) Denver Broncos 8:15 p.m.
11 Nov. 17 (Mon.) at Buffalo Bills 8:30 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 Houston Texans 1 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 Indianapolis Colts 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
15 Dec. 15 (Mon.) at Philadelphia Eagles 8:30 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at Pittsburgh Steelers 1 p.m.

The Browns have a chance to be successful this year, but the schedule isn't in their favor. Dallas and Pittsburgh to start the season is brutal. Following the bye, Cleveland will struggle with the Giants, at Washington and at Jacksonville. And then to close the season, Houston, Indianapolis, at Tennessee, at Philadelphia and at Pittsburgh in the final six weeks. For the Browns to make the playoffs, they will have to earn it.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Houston Texans 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 at Cleveland Browns 8:15 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 at Philadelphia Eagles 4:15 p.m.
4 Sept. 29 (Mon.) Baltimore Ravens 8:30 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 at Jacksonville Jaguars 8:15 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 Bye
7 Oct. 19 at Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 New York Giants 4:15 p.m.
9 Nov. 3 (Mon.) at Washington Redskins 8:30 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 Indianapolis Colts 4:15 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 San Diego Chargers 4:15 p.m.
12 Nov. 20 (Thurs.) Cincinnati Bengals 8:15 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 at New England Patriots 4:15 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 Dallas Cowboys 4:15 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 at Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Cleveland Browns 1 p.m.

The Steelers have a difficult schedule with eight games against the NFC East and AFC South, the two best divisions in the NFL. On top of that, the Browns should compete with the Steelers for the top spot in the division. It will be a tough year for the Steelers to get back to the playoffs.

AFC South
Houston Texans
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 at Pittsburgh Steelers 1 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 Baltimore Ravens 4:15 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 at Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 at Jacksonville Jaguars 1 p.m.
5 Oct. 5 Indianapolis Colts 1 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 Detroit Lions 4:05 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 Bye
9 Nov. 2 at Minnesota Vikings 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 at Indianapolis Colts 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 at Cleveland Browns 1 p.m.
13 Dec. 1 (Mon.) Jacksonville Jaguars 8:30 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at Green Bay Packers 1 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Oakland Raiders 4:05 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Chicago Bears 1 p.m.

The Texans should start 3-3 going into the bye week. Following the bye, Houston will get wins against Cincinnati, Tennessee, Oakland and Chicago. Another win or two would push the Texans over .500 and into playoff contention. But it will all depend on Matt Schaub staying healthy.

Indianapolis Colts
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Chicago Bears 8:15 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 at Minnesota Vikings 1 p.m.
3 Sept. 21 Jacksonville Jaguars 1 p.m.
4 Sept. 28 Bye
5 Oct. 5 at Houston Texans 1 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 at Green Bay Packers 4:15 p.m.
8 Oct. 27 (Mon.) at Tennessee Titans 8:30 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 New England Patriots 8:15 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 at Pittsburgh Steelers 4:15 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 Houston Texans 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 at San Diego Chargers * 8:15 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 at Cleveland Browns 1 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 Detroit Lions 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 18 (Thurs.) at Jacksonville Jaguars 8:15 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.

The Colts season will likely come down to its stretch of games starting in Week7, with tough matchups at Green Bay, home to New England, at Pittsburgh, at San Diego and at Cleveland. The division will be tough also, but the Colts should make through with at least 10 wins again.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Wk Date Matchup Time

5 Oct. 5 Pittsburgh Steelers 8:15 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 at Denver Broncos 4:05 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 Bye
8 Oct. 26 Cleveland Browns 4:05 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 at Cincinnati Bengals 1:00 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 at Detroit Lions 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 Tennessee Titans 1 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 Minnesota Vikings 1 p.m.
13 Dec. 1 (Mon.) at Houston Texans 8:30 p.m.
14 Dec. 7 at Chicago Bears 1 p.m.
15 Dec. 14 Green Bay Packers 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 18 (Thurs.) Indianapolis Colts 8:15 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at Baltimore Ravens 1 p.m.

It will be interesting to see David Garrard and his new weapons with Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson, which should open up the offense. That will mean more running lanes for Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, and I see Jones-Drew having a big year. The Jaguars have great home games against Indianapolis, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

Tennessee Titans
Wk Date Matchup Time

7 Oct. 19 at Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.
8 Oct. 27 (Mon.) Indianapolis Colts 8:30 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 Green Bay Packers 1 p.m.
10 Nov. 9 at Chicago Bears 1 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 at Jacksonville Jaguars 1 p.m.

15 Dec. 14 at Houston Texans 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 Pittsburgh Steelers 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at Indianapolis Colts 1 p.m.

The Titans better hope they can run the ball with the same success as last year because outside of upgrading at tight end, Vince Young again is left with little help at wide receiver. On defense, the Titans have lost several key players. The Titans will finish around .500 this year.

AFC West

15 Dec. 14 at Carolina Panthers 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 Buffalo Bills 4:05 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at San Diego Chargers 4:15 p.m.

The Broncos have a chance to finish the season strong this year as opposed to previous years when they fell apart at the end. I can see Denver going 7-2 after the bye to finish 10-6. Brandon Marshall's arm needs to be 100 percent, and Travis Henry needs to stay healthy for a full season.

Kansas City Chiefs

15 Dec. 14 San Diego Chargers 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at Cincinnati Bengals 1 p.m.

The Chiefs are going to be bad, especially with Brodie Croyle expected to start at quarterback. Larry Johnson, however, has a chance to start the season strong with some poor run defenses on the schedule in Oakland, Atlanta, Denver and Carolina in the first five weeks. If Johnson can stay healthy, he should rebound as a quality Fantasy running back.

Oakland Raiders
Wk Date Matchup Time

16 Dec. 21 Houston Texans 4:05 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1 p.m.

All eyes will be on JaMarcus Russell early to see if he can live up to the hype of being the No. 1 overall pick last year. I don't know how good Russell will be, and I don't like his receiving options even with the addition of Javon Walker. The Raiders will again finish fourth behind San Diego, Denver and Kansas City.

San Diego Chargers
Wk Date Matchup Time
1 Sept. 7 Carolina Panthers 4:15 p.m.
2 Sept. 14 at Denver Broncos 4:15 p.m.

5 Oct. 5 at Miami Dolphins 1 p.m.
6 Oct. 12 New England Patriots 8:15 p.m.
7 Oct. 19 at Buffalo Bills 1 p.m.
8 Oct. 26 at New Orleans Saints (in London) 1 p.m.
9 Nov. 2 Bye
10 Nov. 9 Kansas City Chiefs 4:15 p.m.
11 Nov. 16 at Pittsburgh Steelers 4:15 p.m.
12 Nov. 23 Indianapolis Colts * 8:15 p.m.
13 Nov. 30 Atlanta Falcons 4:05 p.m.

15 Dec. 14 at Kansas City Chiefs 1 p.m.
16 Dec. 21 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers * 8:15 p.m.
17 Dec. 28 Denver Broncos 4:15 p.m.

All of the Chargers tough games out of division instead of at Pittsburgh in Week 11 are at home, which will help in matchups against Indianapolis and New England. But the Chargers could get off to a slow start with Philip Rivers (knee), Antonio Gates (toe) and possibly LaDainian Tomlinson (knee) coming into the season banged up.

* - Sunday night games in Weeks 11-17 subject to change.
